All kinds of hepatitis C information

Hepatitis C is difficult to understand, and there are LOTS of "experts" out there who are more than willing to take advantage of the uninformed.  Please feel free to call our National Support Line for more detailed and personal attention related to hepatitis C (number listed above).

The folks who keep the NHCC in operation are unique people. ALL are volunteers who help fund our daily operations, tend to our telephone support lines, attend health fairs, and do just about anything necessary to help the NHCC continue to operate. These folks are required to have extensive and personal hepatitis C experience behind them before speaking to patients or family members about the disease, but this is just so we can make sure that what's shared is honest, trustworthy, and that our reputation remains stellar and accurate as always.

Times are difficult for most folks and money is tight. However, we too have significant expenses just keeping the NHCC in operation, and this is why it's so important that we reach out to good people like yourselves who will help us remain active for the "cause".

Please remember us in your prayers as well as with your financial contributions, and we promise that we'll do our very best to be here when you need us!

The NHCC is a 501(c)3 charitable organization.
Financial donation are tax-deductible.

Hi, I am a 22 year old wife and mother with hep c. I was diagnosed after trying to donate blood at a health fair at work (I used to be a CNA) I lost my job, I had to quit nursing school of course. I went through the treatment for 6 months and it worked a little bit but I have stage 2 type c hep c. I lost my insurance so I received a letter through the mail from my doctor refusing to keep me as a patient. lol. I hope to meet people who understand and I pray for all of you and your families.

I have been visiting your site for a few years off and on. I have hep c and my 26 yr old daughter died 3 yrs ago from it, and she has a 9 yr old boy who tests positive for it. I have learned a lot from this site and plan to continue to visit it. Thank you for the continued information on this site.

This is my first time visiting your site and found it by accident. I use to get blood transfusions regularly when I was younger than became an alcoholic. I have just began interferon treatment. I am tired most of the time and in pain or sleep the other times. I will continue to look at this site for all that is offered to me. Thank-you!

I was diagnosed with the HCV in 97, and have ignored the virus for the past 8 years. I was told at the time that nothing could be done as interferon was too expensive & the British National Health would not fund the treatment. However a couple of month ago I was told that treatment could now be possible although until visiting your site I was starved of the facts. Thank you for the information.

Wow. thanks so much........... Im calling the doctor today. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING SO INFORMATIVE.

Was diagnosed in 1999 when my then 12 year old was being tested for reason for kidney disease, we are both 1A and have bleeding disorder. My child had combo treatment and is permanently mentally ill, and had been denied SSI 4 times. I have also been denied as well. We are now taking herbs and using diet and prayer for healing. Your story is remarkable and an inspiration to all.  I have all normal labs and a very low viral load despite probably having hep C for over 30 years.

Kevin and Patty and all who help with the NHCC work hard to tell the "Rest of the Story" as Paul Harvey says it. Thank you. I have not met anyone I know personally that the conventional treatment worked on. It did not work for me as well. We are all in this disease together. We need to stick together. I was blind about treatment options till NHCC showed me an alternative. God Bless NHCC!

Having just had a liver biopsy yesterday, and hearing from the doctor today about the "preliminary" results, I'm told that I probably have cirrhosis, brought on by hepatitis C, which I've apparently had for many years. I've never abused alcohol, and wasn't an intravenous drug user. My doctor tells me that I will definitely have to have interferon injections, as well as some pills, but, having found this site, I'm hoping that there are effective treatment alternatives that I'll learn about here.

It is sites like this and the dedicated people who started it, and work to maintain it that give hope and inspiration and information to the rest of us who are newly diagnosed and looking for all the information possible. Most of us who are diagnosed, are surprised, scared, unsure. and are looking for support from those who have taken the journey farther against the dragon then we have. We are grateful.

I suppose that I contracted HCV late 60's early 70's during the viet nam war. Was told in 83 that I had non a, non b hep, but never directed to seek help or info. I'm 55 now. Significant inflammation struck last fall. chronic hep c, viral count 4.3 mil. If I go into failure? How do I ask my 18 yr old son to save my life with a Living donor liver transplant? I will keep my faith in god's good graces and try milk thistle as well. Thanks for all your wonderful support and info.

I was diagnosed with HepC late 2001 and was pretty devastated. My previous girlfriend had Hep C, but my long term lifestyle was possibly as much to blame, so how I got Hep is a moot point. Hi! I found out a year ago that I have hepatitis-c. I was so scared at first, but now I have come to terms with this virus. I know that having hepatitis-c is not a death sentence. Some people just don't understand, and aren't willing to learn.  Thanks.

I was told that I had hepC in '99. I saw a specialist & was asked questions about my lifestyle; they also did a liver biopsy. I didn't fit the profile of someone who had hepC. I was diagnosed in 2000 right after my brother died from hep-c complications. I had a biopsy done to confirm then waited for the new medication (peg-rib-interferon) to come out and just now got enrolled in study group for meds. I've been all over the web looking for anything that could give me hope that this dreaded mess could be cleared up or even whipped out. Unfortunatly all i ever saw or read was the bad stuff about hep-c. That was until i found your site. Thank you .....moose..

Thanks for this great site. I have Hep C 44/4 and just recently found out that it had progressed much more than recent studies have revealed. I am symtom-free now and will start my treatment next week. I am very suprised to find that alot of Doctors have so little info for me. I am recommending that they look at this site ASAP!

Just lost my mom in May 2004 to HCV. She was diagnosed in 1996 but by then she had already developed cirrhosis. She was a nurse and that's how she contracted the virus. I applaud you for helping bring awareness to the Hep C epidemic so that others will have hope!!!

I found out I had Hep C a few weeks ago. Routine lab work made it obvious, yet my practioner told me my labs were great, perfectly normal. As I work in the health care field, I have access to my test results and was horrified to see that Hep C was detected. I am now preparing for starting treatment and possible legal action. Scared and angry. Getting a new doctor, too.

I was diagnosed with Hep C in 2002. I have had 2 rds. of Peg/Rib. I guess I'm what you might call a relapser.... Doc says now I'm in beginning stages of Cirrhosis. I am scared to death. Most of the time I cry, because my family has had to deal with so much. Especially the times I feel helpless and a lone. Thank you for listening. I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C June 25, 2004. It was really a fluke it was found. I work in a prison and it was suggested getting tested for Hep B before receiving the vaccine. My hepatic levels are all within normal range and I have no symptoms. I will see a specialist in a couple of weeks to find out if I am in the active or dormant stage. I am alone and frightened. This site will help.

He died from this horrible disease on Wednesday February 17th of 2004. I can not believe he died so quickly. We're not sure how he contacted this illness. He drank heavy, had tattoos, used drugs. An old girlfriend from 15yrs ago told us that she had hepatitis c. I wonder if that's when he was tested and found out.

I am 48 years old and was diagnosed with HEP C in1999. Hystorectomy in 1991 most likely cause when I received blood. I am in the process of going to yet my 3rd Gastroenterologist for the new interferon treatment. Your website was very informative and very sad at the same time. To read so many are suffering from this terrible virus is overwhelming. I know I am not alone and I continue to fight. May GOD bless all.

This is my first time viewing your site and I think it is very informative. I have known about my Hep C since 1996 and because of circumstances beyond my control I am just now seeing a doctor for bloodwork etc. I have been researching herbs as an alternative before any other kind of treatment. This site is wonderful!! Keep up the good work.

Having Hep C type 1b, is and has been the hardest thing I have ever had to contend with. Both my life and the lives of my family have been severly impacted. BUT I am alive almost 2 years longer than the Dr's thought. I am now very sick and tired of having to fight this everyday, but somehow i am still here......... hope for all

Both my husband and I have HCV. I was digagnosed in 94 , him just a few years ago.We finally saved enough money to start him on a check up. Lab results show his blood is to thick. So now we are waiting for more results to see if he has liver cancer. I know alot about HCV, but nothing about HCV induced liver cancer, it's scary.Best of luck to everyone. My philosophy, never ever give up, keep trudging, know matter how hard.

I found out I had Hep-C back in Feb. 2000. My viral load is over 3,500,000 at last check in Jan. 2003. Feel pretty achy most of the time. I am on oxycontin for pain from a botched hysterectomy that damaged one of my nerves, so that helps with the pain from the Hep-c. I am going to try to control it with diet and plenty of rest. I just checked out your site and think you're providing a wonderful service. I was diagnosed non-A non-B in 1987 and with HCV in 1992. Tried two types of interferon combo's without adverse effects, but also without beneficial effects. Also went the herbal and dietary route for years. Had a liver transplant in 2000 and even though I still have a very virulent form of HCV, it hasn't started affecting my liver yet and I'm doing exceptionally well. Thanks for your efforts!

I was told 4 days ago by my Dr. that I had Hep-C and there are already signs of liver damage. I came on this site and many others to try to understand this thing, and see what I do next. All I can say is that God works in mysterious ways, because the reason I got tested was because I had met someone and yes had unprotected sex, so I was worried so I got tested for everything. I am kinda glad that this happened because it probably would've gone on for years before I even knew.

Hello my name is Sadie. I found out in June of 2001 that I had hepatitis C. I got a letter from Manitoba Health informing me to get tested. For some reason I had a feeling that I had something but I didn't know what? I unfortunately was one of the people that got infected with contaminated blood. I'm glad there is information out there for people like us. I have no symptoms at this time. Although, I know one day I will and thanks to this web and many more I can be ready for whatever comes.

Found out I had HVC in 93 while I was in the US Navy. I assume my active stage of the illness was while I was in the Marines in 75. (Yellow jaundice, ALT/SGOT off the scale, etc. I'm now struggling with facing the fact that I need to change my habits as I still drink. I have no symptoms and get ultrasounds and test every 6 months. One thing I have noticed. I began taking effexor for anxiety and my ALT has been normal ever since. This puzzles me something fierce.

In 1987, I had a physical and my liver was elevated then but I knew nothing about Hep C until 2 weeks ago when a good friend of mine tested positive. I am glad for this site as I have learned alot. Thanks for all the input. I have bought different things to try to help me because I have no insurance

I appreciate the time it must take to keep track of all the news about this disease. Having a network to work from helps with the fear and feeling of helplessness. It is sad to think we question the medical advise due to the greed that is permeating our culture. In finding good people who care gives us all hope. Thanks

We just found out 2.5 yrs ago that my dad has Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion that he had over 27 years ago now. He was on the treatment for about 6 months and after that his level was still too high, so his dr. told him to stop. The treatment made him even worse. I am very scared for what lies in his future and would like to be more active in any possible way that I can to help educate others about this "silent" disease.

Within the past 2 months, age 53, I was diagnosed with Hep C, type 1a; contracted by blood transfusions in mid 70's. Last week, I was informed that I have early to mid-stage cirrhosis. My viral load is under 1/2M, platelet count is well under 65K. The Hepatologist conveys so little hope. I look to explore this disease with this community on this Website, and perhaps I'll find some new hope. Thanks for making this site available to those of us affected by Hep C and the lack of good information.

Biopsy was very good, but I continue to be sick and get sicker. No support from the family, just won't accept I am sick. Maybe it is all in my head. Diagnosed HCV positive in 1999. Liver biopsy was done in 2000. I lost my job and along with it, my health insurance. Need another biopsy before the Doctor will prescribe meds. Can't afford the biopsy so I'm screwed. First biopsy showed the degree of fibrosis to be close to the point where the meds won't help. Every day that passes could push me over that line if I haven't already crossed it. I'm following "Kev's Regimen" and feel somewhat better. I refuse to just sit back and wait to die.

Diagnosed in 1995, and completed 6 months of 3x weekly interferon injection (almost longest six months of my life). RNA undetectable through 1999, and then comes back again. Each day brings new challenges...Can't physically or emotionally handle secondary treatment so HCV will get its way with me. To persons who get disease undetectable, be ever so thankful. For those of you who relapse or fail from initial treatment standards, may your days be less challenging than mine. AF

Treatment discontinued and unsuccessful. I have cirrhosis of my liver and I am in end stage liver failure. Lots of pain in my joints ,swelling of my abdomen, legs and feet. Very low energy. Had a liver bio, not a canidate for treatment. now at 43, with life changing events that have occurred (my dgthas suffered a TBI) things are getting a lot worse. . Female 52 w/hep c for 30 years. Virus would sleep for many years then raise its ugly head. I know that I could bring IT [nagging liver feeling] on, BY THINKING ABOUT IT!  I have always tried NOT to think about IT & went about my life in a positive mode. Interferon for chronic hep in 93, no response.  In 98 took the combo and it worked! The power of the brain over ailment is real.  If you think positively, FIND the good in life, and not think about IT, it may work for you as well. All the best.

Hello,  I was dignosed with Hep C March of 2000 and felt very scared at first.  I had a liver biopsy and apparently I wasn't at a high risk for treatment.  I have to have my blood taken ever month to keep track of my liver ALT count.  I don't like the idea of not having any treatment. I was told I'm not sick enough.  But I feel like I have been given a death sentance and only when I'm deadly sick will I receive treatment. Well, that's all.  God Bless us all with hope and peace.

Just found this site and was so impressed with Kev's inspirational story. I was diagnosed in 1999 with this disease as was my husband and my 23 year old daughter, I have a 4 year old grandson that is disease free, Praise God, so you see there really are miracles and I know there is HOPE!!!!

HI;     I've been in recovery for alcohol and drug abuse when I was diagnosed with the C. I have 6 years clean and sober. I decided against interferon cause I want what is left of my life to be mine and the Lord Jesus Christs, which is the only way I can handle this.      God Bless Al

My brother-in-law was diagnosed with Hep C just after the Thanksgiving holiday.  After a pouched galbladder surgery where they nicked his colon they discovered he also had the disease.  He is very sick and is now at Stanford trying to keep him alive.  They are working to get his kidney's back on line, it's a horrible holiday season, but the wonderful doctors at stanford have kept him alive longer than we thought.  our prayers are with him.
